open handset alliance

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:50 pm

now this is pretty cool 30 tech companies to make a better mousetrap.  Okay actually a better cellphone, but you get the picture.  There are companies such as HTC, LG, Motorola, Samsung, Sprint, NTT DoCoMo, Intel;, Broadcom, and Google that are contributing.  I wonder if they are more concerned about apple and the iphone or really want to build really good phones??

Android is what they have developed.  It is the first open, free mobile platform.  It used Apache’s open source license, so it is linux based - built completely on the kernel.  I think that on the right phone, this can truly be the iphone killer.  Open source is the way to go.

olympics 2008 over

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:03 pm

So the olympics are officially closed.  Some say the US won with the highest medal count, some say China won with the most gold medals.  Honestly, I say both did.  We won the medal count, although not nearly as many golds.  When you win at table tennis and trampoline and rhythmic gymnsatics - dancing around on a mat with a piece of fabric on a stick, I just have difficulty arguing that it is a sport.

I hope that Michael Phelps makes 100 million dollars in endorsement deals - he deserved it.  What he accomplished was nothing short of amazing.

And as far as China’s hosting of the olympics - 40 billion dollars… Well for the GDP of a small country to host 2 weeks of games, I sure hope they dont go out to the world asking for aide money any time soon…

Bolt bolts for second gold

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 2:22 pm

Usain Bolt - definitely one of the coolest names for an athlete ever - won the 200 meter today. He claimed the 100 meter gold over the weekend, and is now only the ninth sprinter in history to win both the 100 and 200 at the same olympics. He joins Carl Lewis, Valeriy Borzov, Bobby Morrow, Jesse Owens, Eddie Tolan, Percy Williams, Ralph Craig, and Archie Hahn as the nine runners to win gold in both sprints in one olympics. He also is the FIRST man ever to break both world records in the same olympics.

It was ridiculous to see him run. He was on a different level. I was really hoping Walter Dix could have given him a run, but he is simply a genetic freak. 6′5″ - his stride is just so much longer than the rest of the sprinters he just took track to a whole new level…

Hurricane Fay on the way!!

Filed under: general — admin @ 9:35 am

So it finally starts… OFFICIAL hurricane season - meaning the first one to actually come towards Central Florida. It will be interesting to see how it affects us and how it travels. These really obtuse angles into Florida really widen the dispersion location. Thankfully it will only be a small hurricane, if at all - it is 60MPH winds leaving Cuba now, and should strengthen with the warm gulf waters and the gulfstream, but only time will tell.

Hydrotech Pools offers a hurricane cleanup service for pre-hurricane and post-hurricane service. They will prep the pool for a hurricane, and then clean up and restart it after the hurricane passes. It is a family owned business and great people! Recemmended highly. http://www.hydrotechpool.com/hurricane.html

Aug 13 meals

Filed under: health and fitness — admin @ 9:41 pm

So todays diet was a little more guesswork.

Breakfast - 1 double espresso and a clif bar.  About 250 calories
Lunch - 1/2 sub - about 450 calories
Dinner - same as yesterday (leftovers) - about 1000 calories

So 1700 calories for the day. Still pretty good, but I was exhausted at the end of the day. Might have to bump up a few hundred calories so I can make it through the day….

Next week I will set 6 fixed menus. Find 12 interesting meals, then make them once a week for 3 weeks - get good at those meals, and see if i can hit my weightloss target before the road trip…

Google Maps UK

Filed under: general — admin @ 9:13 pm

Now this is funny… Google maps UK, as are Google Maps, are photographing street view images.  Well, seeing as how walking is quite popular there, looks like this chap decided to walk instead of taking a taxi.  And didn’t quite make it.  And, well, slept long enough through the morning for Google Car to drive by and catch him taking a kip…

Madden 09 out today

Filed under: tech — admin @ 11:42 am

So Madden 09 releases today…  I wonder how the sales are?  I wonder if I should pick it up or just keep playing Madden 07?  I wonder if Brett Favre on the cover will re-institute the curse since he is unretired.  I wonder if they expected him to come back?  I wonder…
